The Splinters of Life

I was recently enjoying the warmth of the sun while sitting on my front porch. Barefoot, it wasn’t long before I suffered the consequence---a splinter in my foot. I limped to the bathroom to grab my tweezers and a needle. About 15 minutes later I had accomplished digging a small hole in my foot, which only pushed the splinter in further. I sat there wondering how my mom used to get my splinters out so easily.

Unfortunately, there are painful splinters throughout life. The criticism of others, broken promises, betrayal, harsh words, and disappointments are just a few of the splinters we encounter. Splinters are going to happen in life. It is how we handle them that make the difference.

Instead of letting God remove the splinters, we often start to squirm from the pain and try to deal with them ourselves; bitterness, anger, and thoughts of revenge end up pushing the splinters in deeper.

We must allow God’s Word to dwell deep within us as tweezers that remove the splinters of life. Our splinters don’t have to remain in us, causing constant pain as we move through life.

Allow God to minister to you. Ask Him to give you a passage from His Word to meditate on to help heal the pain caused by a recent splinter, or from one that is buried under anger and bitterness.

I encourage you to come back to the site throughout the week and post the Bible verses you are meditating on. I would love to hear from you!

Blessings,

Stephanie

Stephanie, great analogy. It's true that we tend to exacerbate our own situations and sometimes fail to allow God to help us and give us wisdom.

Steph...only God and mothers know how to use tweezers ever so gently...unless He feels you need a little pain in your life to get your attention.

Well, then you should get here with your tweezers because I still have a splinter in my foot.

Hi Stephanie,
I hope this comment takes. I seem to be tech. handicaped!
All of your illustrations are good, but this one really ministers to me. Thank you.

Thanks Devita. I've received a lot of feedback on this particular blog. I'm thinking about doing a second part to it in a few week. This is an area that everyone can relate to almost on a weekly basis.
