A Season's Storm

At 4:30 a.m. last Thursday, the unmistakable sound of a tornado siren woke me from an otherwise pleasant sleep. This incident was a rude reminder that the tornado season is just around the corner. With the unusually harsh winter coming to a close, I have been anticipating spring more than usual. The grass turning green from its current drab brown color, the trees fleshing out with leaves, and the flowers blooming after hibernation. However, this unpleasant episode at 4:30 a.m. reminded me that every season has its harshness and storms. Spring brings severe thunderstorms, the summer brings extreme heat, fall brings cold, windy rains, and winter brings us the harshness of snow, ice, and bitterly cold temperatures.

How often do we find ourselves overwhelmed by the stormy circumstance of our current season of life? Simply looking forward to the next season, which has to be better. We believe it will be smooth sailing, forgetting that the season to come will bring its own stormy weather. As a result, we may end up missing out on blessings of the season we are in at the moment.

The stressed-out student looks forward to graduation; the lonely single adult looks forward to marriage; the exhausted mother of a toddler looks forward to her children going to school; the crazed parents of a teenager look forward to an empty nest; and the working person looks forward to retirement.

Although all of these circumstances will bring trials, in each, there are also experiences to be embraced and lessons to be learned.

Take a look at your current season of life. Embrace the blessings, experiences, lessons, and trials of your current season. Before long you will find yourself in a new season, so don’t miss the joys of the one you are in now because of a passing storm.
Blessings,
Stephanie

Stephanie,
Thanks for the inspiring messages you are sharing. This one is rather special, because we all have "seasons" throughout our life.

This message hits home for me right now, Steph. Thanks for the gentle reminder that it is our blessings we are to count, not our storms.

Hey Stephanie,

That is so true, and you say it so much prettier than we do down in Arkansas :0) The grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence.
