I’m not a fan of baseball. In fact, I can’t stand the game. I know that’s so anti-American that some would prefer I be thrown out of the country, but my love for apple pie alone should be enough to save me.
Despite my loathing for baseball, there is one thing I find very interesting about the game--the bullpen. The bullpen is the area where relief pitchers warm-up during a game. These pitchers never know when, or if, they will get to enter the game. The team keeps them warmed up in the pen just in case there is a situation where they need to grab a pitcher and put him in the game.
Sadly, many of us have a bullpen in the game of life.
You’re in a tough situation and the game is on the line. You aren’t sure what to do, so you make the call to the bullpen to bring God into the game. You start reading your Bible, you spend time in prayer, and just to be on the safe side you decide to attend a church service or two. Once you feel you have a handle on things again, you send God back to the bullpen.
God doesn’t want to be a relief pitcher in your bullpen. He is fully available and able to get and stay in the game with you. It doesn’t mean life will always go the way you want it, but you will finish the game strong.
I think all of us have a tendency to try and play the game without God. This has been an issue for humanity since the fall of Adam and Eve. Through Jesus we can now have a relationship with God. He will give each of us the direction and wisdom we need for life. So, why do we so often keep him out of the majority of the game?
Call God out of your bullpen this week and get him in the game for good.
Blessings,
Stephanie

OK........heading to the bullpen to let God out. I do find myself sending Him there a lot. Nice reminder for us all. Why do we try and stick the owner of the team into the bullpen?
Good word. However, your love for apple pie in NO way makes up for not appreciating baseball. I'll pray for you.
