Winds of Change

On my drive home from work last week, I was shocked to see that gas was several cents higher than when I left for work a few hours earlier. Gas prices are changing in the perfect season—the season of change. This is typically the time of year for big changes in life: graduations, weddings, new jobs, and geographical moves.

I remember the excitement of my high school graduation. Change seemed much more of a thrill during that time of life. Over the years, however, it has lost its “newness.” Rather than walk into change wide-eyed with anticipation, I now fight the urge to cower in a protective corner when the winds of change blow. The irony is that the thing I abhor is what I am called to do—change.

God has called the Christian to a life of change; we are to change into the likeness of Christ. This change doesn’t come from a life of ease and perfection; it comes as we learn and grow through the changing circumstances around us. The more life changes, the more we turn our gaze toward God, and hopefully, the more we change into the likeness of the one we see--Jesus.

As gas and food prices increase, we must look toward God and learn to depend on Him in a deeper way than we have in the past. In the process, we will come to see and know Him on a level that changes the very core of our being.

Blessings,

Stephanie

I am certainly feeling the change. Going through Canada, the US dollar is trading straight across to the Canadian dollar. One clerk at a store smiled at me today as we talked about this, and he said, "Times are changing." Times are changing for me as we move thousands of miles away, sell our house, and seek a new ministry position. But God is faithful during times of change.

Right on! You captured my heart & mind, I'm with you on the need to change as the Holy Spirit works His work in our lives. Sometimes the 'ouch' of change seems overwhelming, but I've always seen that God brings the best out of me & my circumstances when change takes place. I'm learning to hold on tight & enjoy the ride (most of the time at least :)
